Sooner or later, every business will be faced with a system failure of some kind, and the subsequent loss of business critical data. It doesn’t matter what size the business is, what capabilities the IT department has, or how the failure occurred. What matters is the data protection and recovery plans the business has in place in order to ensure the data loss is merely inconvenient, rather than catastrophic.

LinuxIT now partners with the leading provider of enterprise backup solutions, Arkeia, to provide its customers with a wide range of backup and disaster recovery tools and services. The solutions provide enterprise-class technology at competitive prices, and have been certified on the leading Linux distributions, including those from SUSE Linux, RedHat and Mandriva.

But it’s not just data from Linux systems that can be backed up. Companies with heterogeneous networks and distributed systems can also benefit from the expertise of LinuxIT and Arkeia.

Arkeia Disaster BackupArkeia Options

Arkeia Options are available as additions to either Arkeia Network Backup or Arkeia Smart Backup. Significant features and benefits of the available options include:

Application & Database Hot Backup Modules
Arkeia Software has developed a series of options to enable online backup of a wide range of applications and databases, without ever having to take the application or database down. Modules are available to perform online backup of widely used applications such as Lotus, Open-Xchange (including SLOX), LDAP, MS Exchange, and databases such as Oracle, mySQL, PostgreSQL, DB2, and MS SQL Servers. If there is not yet a dedicated hot backup module for a critical application, contact us and let us know.

Arkeia Disaster Recovery Option
Arkeia Software has developed an added form of safeguarding information with bare-metal restore add-ons that will completely restore Linux or Windows machines in only a few simple steps. Even if the computer is stolen or totally destroyed, the Disaster Recovery option can re-create lost data on a new machine.
Note: Windows Disaster Recovery is supported with Arkeia Network Backup 5.3.12 and newer.

Additional Options
Encryption
Arkeia Software's encryption option encrypts data at the Client, ensuring data is protected from source generation through tape archive. Encrypting at the Client also leverages underutilized Client processing power rather than Backup Server processing, enabling faster data movement and shorter backup windows.

NDMP
Arkeia Network Backup supports NDMP protocol to manage the backup of filers to a tape drive or library. Key benefits of this technology include reduced backup windows and faster data restore of the filer.

Tape Duplication
Tape Duplication consists of cloning the content of one tape onto another tape of the same type. Duplicating data prevents data loss from theft, fire or other disaster. This is of course accomplished by storing tapes off-site to avoid loss at the same time as the original.
