The vulnerability is a serious weakness in the Linux glibc library acting, a core component of all Linux systems. It acts as a 'buffer overflow' bug affecting the gethostbyname() and gethostbyname2(). It allows remote attackers to take complete control of the victims system without having any prior knowledge of system credentials.
