LinuxIT backs Cabinet Office Open Source toolkit

LinuxIT welcomes the publication of the Open Source Procurement Toolkit published by the Cabinet Office today.

Peter Dawes-Huish, Chairman and Chief Executive of LinuxIT, said: "Up until now barriers to adoption have been attributed to a lack of understanding of the potential benefits of OSS, accompanied by a risk-averse technical and procurement culture, compounded by significant levels of misconceptions about Open-Source security. "

“We expect this new tool kit to be extremely helpful in enabling central and local Government to make progress in securing the benefits that can flow from the successful adoption of OS technologies and realise their aspirations to adopt OS technology where it provides best value to their citizens. By using the guides in the kit they can move forward with confidence. We look forward to bringing our OS skills and experience, to those who wish to use it. As we have at Bristol City Council where we are now leading their Digital City project and other public sector organisations like University College Falmouth, Carmarthenshire and Lancashire County Councils enabling them to adopt OS technologies in an effective and progressive way."

LinuxIT is a key partner to central and local Government and their System Integrators. Its specialist offering of enterprise and community OS technology, specialist services (consultancy, implementation, resourcing, support and training) and their unique Community Linux Indemnification Program complements the Toolkit perfectly.
